What is a lot of miles

I am looking at getting a CTD. I found a 06 mega cab with the 5.9. it has 72k miles. Should I be worried about these miles, motor, tranny, powertrain, etc....

Thanks in advance for your help

While I don't disagree with Annabelle, you may find one with a lot less miles. For example, my 06 has 31K miles. Not everyone uses these trucks for daily drivers.

I agree with both parties. Guess it depends on how much you willing to pay? I got my 06 with 105k and runs and feels okay, but then I got it at the price I was willing to pay for it cash. Did minor repairs though. Say nelrod, i noticed in your signature you are running 19, what size tire. I want to put 35in mine and I know you need a spacer in the back, just dont know what size

The past yr or so theres a lot more low milage diesels around for sale, since the fuel price got so high. ive looked at diesel trucks for years. and up untill about 9 or 10 months ago you either couldn't find or afford a used one that had any less than 125k miles on it. now theres Lots around with 30/40/50k on them. wish i had waited about 4-6 months to buy one last year, coulda saved myself 5-6k$ but i did get a loaded mint condition truck with only about 42k mies on it. ive seen 2 nice 06's sitting on the lot for months, ones still there i think, and another was there last spring all through summer. one was a stick with 25k on it and another auto with about 50. 2 years ago those motors wouldnt have even got cold before they sold. but with the bad economy these trucks sit around for months! i remember looking at a 5 yr old 2002 with about 120k on it, they wanted about 25k$ for it, if it had been one year later they would have only been able to get 16 for it! kinda funny how things change. of course after i pay too much for one, and chryslers about to go bankrupt?

As is said above, there's lots of low milaege lightly used trucks around. Last Dec I bought a '07 with 25K miles on it. Got a great deal, too.

From everything I'v read and heard, The engine and trans should easily last 200K miles of not abused, and properly maintained.

BUT, there's a lot of things on a dodge truck that won't last nearly as long - shocks, brakes, A/C compressor, P/S pump, ball joints, etc. Pay carefull attention to those wear items. Especially the ball joints and shocks, they seem to fail fairly early on.

Also, see if you can find any evidence of a computer re-tune - like Quadzilla, Bully Dog, etc. That can significantly reduce the life of the transmission.

I made it a point to ignore any truck that had a 5th wheel or goose neck hitch.

I also bought an extended warrenty. 6 years and 100K miles, cost me $1,200. I know the engine is warrenteed for that long. But I don't want to pay for a new trans in 2-3 years. P/S pump is $250, and an A/C compressor $350. How much is a new trans? Or a new lift pump? I don't know, but I know it's a lot more than $1,200. It's a gamble that I hope I lose. I don't ever want it to break down. But it's nice to know that it will never cost me more than $50.
