Westach guage question

I want to install a westach tranny temp guage, but the leads on the sender are only about 40" long and they won't reach to the guage pod from the trans pan. Is it ok to splice on an extension to the existing wire or will that mess up the calibration??

It says on their web page that they can be shortened or lengthened.

You should be able to lengthen them..but I think you need to solder the wires, if you use a butt splice you might mess with the cal due to changing the resistance too much....but i could be wrong.
