Weird start and white smoke
Weird start and white smoke
Ok guys i know this topics been covered a million times but ive done lots of reading and cant find an answer to believe in.
After my truck sits overnight it has a weird start, its not a hard start. It cranks just fine and fires up after the 2nd or 3rd turn. But when it fires it catches but then revs high like it had more fuel than it was supposed to have. Followed by that is a puff of white smoke and depending on how long it sat is how much smoke it spits out. For example, when i start it in the morning it does that weird rev then smokes white for about 5-10 seconds then everything is fine. No rough idle at all. Just the weird start rev thing.
Any ideas? Ive already changed the fuel filter cleaned the canister and used a bottle of power service. Same thing still. I also just returned the truck back to stock (had a bully dog on) im gonna see if that helps. Im leaning more towards leaky injector. Im gona pull the manifold later on and see which cylinder smokes.
Thanks for the help

If leaking inj it will hammer after it starts. This is an example of the fuel system bleeding down or sucking air. You don't have to pull exhaust just feel with your fingers at the base of the exaust manifold and head, a cool one indicates a miss. If it is sucking air all cylinders will still feel the same.
what do you mean by hammer? i'll try what you said to do with the manifold. i ran a bottle of power service through it earlier today and it seemed to stop doing that weird start. I'll see what it does in the morning after its been sitting overnight
Alright so i ran so power service through but now its back, and im determined its an injector. Lately its been pretty bad with white smoke on start up and now after its been sitting over night it leaves a damp puddle of what i think is diesel on the ground. Im pretty sure its coming out of the blow by tube cause its right underneath it.
Sound like an injector going south?
Im going to hang a bottle underneath the tube tonight and try to catch some to see if its diesel.

Check your oil level. If it is way overfull you leaked fuel into the crank case, DO NOT drive it you will wipe out the engine. You will need to isolate which injector and repair as necessary. If you do not have access to electronic diagnostic tool you can pull the exhaust manifold and fire it up, the cylinder that has the white smoke is the culprit.
