Water in fuel light ever go on?
I don't ever want to have any work performed by a Dodge dealer period. Warranty or not. To many horror stories, yours a fine example. If I can't do it myself I figure out how to, usually on here. Or i seek advice or help from someone experienced that i know personally and trust. Sorry to hear about your nightmare.
I just noticed that we had two people that do not know what the water in fuel light does. The water in fuel light is SUPPOSED to tell you that you have water in your fuel and that if not cared for will case major damage to your fuel system.
Something that I think is stupid is that the light never does a self check on the 06 models, I would assume 07 as well... You can't even test it with the dash check.. It should come on every time you turn the key on so that drivers see it.
just changed oil and fuel filter this weekend. Had about 2-3oz of water in fuel canister with some minor sludge at bottom NO WIF light came on. First time in 41/2 yrs of owing truck and filling at the same stations for the most part. FF changed every oil change.
1-2-3,
I would have to agree on at least 1 & 2. The barrel and the off-road fuel are only used for our annual hunting trip. It usually has some fuel left in it between seasons and it has been sealed and stored in a weather protected area, so some condensation is strong possibility, but water infiltration is unlikely.
And yes, buying from a supplier we're not use to dealing with - even in Western Colorado farm/ranch country - isn't a great idea, a lesson we've learned.
I would chalk if up to a combination of 1 & 2, but finding close to a gallon of water mixed in with 54 gallons of diesel was still surprising.

The topic is more about the WIF light working when theres WATER in the FUEL.Not that pressure washing the engine caused it to go on.Cheez.Now if you had stuck that water nozzel down the filler neck that might be of interest.
Actually it does represent a cause for the light to go on if the connector on the fuel filter is loose or leaking. The conductivity of the water that infiltrates to the back side of the two probes have just as much of a reason to cause the WIF light to come on as pouring in the canister itself. You have to trust these things and if it comes on due to external causes it is important to know.
I should apologize? For what? Just the what the heck has wetting the outside of a canister or getting connectors wet got to do about the system working correctly when water is in the fuel.
Chezz.I and I'm sure others could give a rat if shorting it externally makes a warning or malfunction light come on.I want to know why it doesn't work with water in the FUEL as it was designed(suppose to do) I don't think the system works.Just plain and simple.Been reading posts for YEARS about damage due to water and NEVER that a warning occurred.Has anyone with a manual looked to see if there is a WIF system check and I don't think hosing it down externaly with water is the way to do so.

The question was, has anyone had the light come on. I simply stated I had and my point was that it can come on from washing the engine compartment. Sorry it didn't live up to your standards. Your'e right it wasn't caused by water in fuel. I thought it might be interesting that you can get false readings. Sorry if I bored you
