Warning for ALL 3rd gen owners

Also they won't eat thousands of dollars worth of warranty work as they will just claim you did not change the filter as often as you should have. Unless you have the receipts to prove other wise, you are pretty much at their mercy.
So if you choose not to try and improve your odds by being sure the fuel is adequately filtered, then you may find yourself one of the unfortunate few who is waiting on parts. Then again you may go 500,000 miles without an issue, it is just a roll of the dice.
I know it is a catch 22 scenario, but I personally do not hold any faith in Chrysler fixing ANY issues like this unless a court forces them to do so. Do what you feel is right for you, but keep one eye open
Guys, I don't think they are totally out of injectors. I just took my truck in today for A/C work and they had a 3500 QC LB SRW in with a bad CP3. They darn thing granaded and sent metal through the whole fuel system. They were replacing all injector lines, CP3, Fuel Pump, total flush and 6 bosch injectors. They still have them it may just take a while to get them. They had that truck for 1 1/2 weeks waiting on parts. Not to bad, at least it is not a month.
We have 3 micron filters in house here for our FASS kits. I also hear that some are putting the 2 micron filters on the water sep on the FASS....from Raycore(SP?).....this is on the suction side of the pump...and may cause undesired operation....like cavitation.......

Most people dont realize that a micron is about the size of a bacteria. very small and doesnt take much to stick a injector.
FYI-- human hair is about 80 microns wide.
So we're talking 1/40th of a human hair width filtration!!

I can see it now, someone here will spring the bucks to install a 2 micron fuel filter setup, then suffer an injector issue that probably pre-dates the new filter installation. Only to find out DC voids the warranty because of an aftermarket fuel filter install that they will probably say contributed to the problem. The lose-lose scenario.
I'll wait for DC to issue a TSB, or letter or something. I am not going to lose any sleep over this. Even though I haven't done any engine mods, I keep my fingers crossed that my warranty is still valid.

thats why i let the dealer replace mine every 10k then i dont have to worry about he said she said crap with the dealer. they have it in there computer when it was changed. an extra 40$ to let them change the filters is alot less then paying full price for a pump or something else when they say sorry you voided your warranty by changing our system design. im not saying that there is no room for improvement on these trucks or something wouldn't work better but i pesonally dont think its worth the risk.
I wouldn't blame Bosch. The way the fuel system works amazes me. It takes diesel fuel, squeezes it to 20,000+psi and squirts it thru 5 or 6 holes in a nossel that are so small you can't even see them.... all of this 2 to 3 times every event, all in a split second... That's truly amazing. So asking the fuel to be as clean as possible shouldn't be that big of a deal... that's when Dodge comes into play...

Look I thought i would be nice and inform people about a problem like i said before i DID research thru the dealer and the manufacturer of the injector, they arent running out of parts or injectors but go ahead and call someone for rebuilding them and see what happens. As far as warranty the 800 number from dodge told me they cannot void it unless they can prove it caused the problem. Plus you guys who drive these trucks dont put the miles on them like those who use them for commercial operation . My truck was bought used at 52k in june of 05 as of may of 06 it had 140k on it so the warranty from any dealer only last me and other hard working people maybe a year and a half of anything. extended warranties dont work under commecial most of the time . like i said before i am not telling anybody to go and buy a filter from someone i was just trying to help which after reading some of the replies next time i'll keep it to myself and friends. this filter problem will probably be like the lift pump issue on the 2nd gens h'mm they sure did do something about that problem huh what in 05 huh gotta save that nickel huh

Did the math...at 2000 RPM....One injector is firing about 5.56 times a sec.....you add the pre-injection Event.......
3rd gen technology is amazing me! Floors ya when you actually see what the injector is doing…..That is just at 2000 RPM!
This is a very real concern for longevity. Fleetguard Engineering ordered 2ea of our 2 micron kits last month for testing. One was going on their test truck and the other was going to Chrysler Corporate for testing. I asked the engineer why they didn't just throw one together themselves. They told me that they didn't have time and that they were getting heavy pressure from Cummins Corp to find a solution.
Should be interesting to see what they say (if I hear back from them at all).

This was the reason I paid big bucks for the FASS with available 3 microns filters from fleetguard two years ago. At the time that was the best available of the shelf. First mod I did and was advised to do it by some very experienced experts. I'm in it for the long haul also. Fass is run to the stock canister with the new 7 micron FS19800E fleetguard filter. Still get 15 psi at idle with banjo bolt tap at the cp3. Last changed the filters two months ago and the stock filter came out of the canister clean and pink as it was new. I bet you wonder why your stock filters always come out black? That is asphaltene, a naturally occuring precipitate in diesel. From my experience the 3 micron fleetguard hydraulic filter HF6604 filters the nasty junk. The point is I plan on keeping my truck long after the warranty is up. Most guy's trade in every couple of years and never run out of coverage. If you plan on keeping your CR high pressure fuel system for the long haul get better filtration.

So what about just filtering the fuel before it goes into the tank, The place I get fuel has 2 filters on the pump and most truckstops do the same. I only fuel up at big places that turn fuel a lot not the small places that have old or steel above ground tanks.
I was thinking about getting a 300-500 gal tank at the house and then put the filters on it with a water seperator. I know it will not help for a road trip but at least around home I will not need to worry about it.
