vin number location on engine?

anyone know where the vin number would be on my engine. I have a 2004 dodge diesel 4x4. It might have a 2003 engine in it. I called the dealership and they said that this vehicle had the 325 horse engine in it....

The valve cover says that this has a 305 horse......This is a stolen recovery and I really don't know the history on this vehicle.

So I would like to see if the vin matches the rest of the truck.

It passed a DOT/MVD inspection but the guy that checked it out never said it had a different vin number on the engine. So i would like to check to see and see if possibly the valve cover was changed or if it has a different engine or if the dealership was wrong.....

HELP!!!! Vin location????

On the later trucks the only identification I know of is a large sticker 2x4 inch or so on the drivers side of the valve cover. It lists the engin serial number and horsepoower ratings. Sounds like you have an early 04, not an 04.5 , and yes it could have an engine dated late or even middle of 03 as Dodge buys engines from Cummins and they could be a few months old when Dodge gets them.

I think yours is as it was delivered to the original customer..... My 04.5 chassis ws dated 2/04 but the engine was dated 9-03 or a like date, not sure as truck was traded in and the memory is short.

vehicle identification number will not be found on the engine, that is frame and body only.... but then i've only been around for a short time (68 years)
maybe on some high dollar vehicles they have matching serial numbers, but not dodges

There aint no VIN on the engine. There is an engine serial number but thats it....which has nothing to do with the VIN of your vehicle.
If your engine tag says 305hp then thats what you have.

There were 305 HP engines in early 04. The build dates where in 03 and sold as 04's 04.5 usually had build date after Jan 1 04
