Vibration

2005 dodge 3500 4x4 automatic. traded a 03 in to get an automatic and also got the vibe. It is not as bad as I have heard but comes on at exactly 70 mph and is felt through the pedal and steering wheel. Any service bulletins to refrence to the dealer. I would appreciate any help.

Peddle and steering wheel vibe is probably normal 2100rpm Cummins vibe engine pulses being transmitted through the power brake booster hose into the steering wheel and peddles. It'll smooth out with break in around 60k. The drive line vibe is felt in the seat and floorboard and is a lower frequency vibe. I lived with it for almost two years and 44k miles. The motor was smoothing out nicely and everything was tip top with the truck except for the vibe. Run it up to 72mph and slip the tranny into neutral where it's safe to coast to 25mph or less to put it back in Drive. If it's motor, the vibe will stop or lessen to the normal idle vibe. The Cummns vibe is a beautiful thing. The wife loves it! But the driveline vibe is and feels like something wrong in the rear of the truck. Hopefully yours is the normal 2100rpm vibe. Pep talk over...

I took it to the dealership where I bought the truck. The service manager said he could feel a high speed vibration. He said he had just worked on another with the exact same vibe. Said Dodge told him to put a transfer case in the other truck. This was after he had replaced the U-joints and all driveshafts. He said the transfer cases are on national backorder??? Wonder why? He went ahead and ordered a transfer case for mine as well. Ill let yall know how this plays out. He also said he has replaced over 500 U-Joints in the last year. Seems guys that dont feel the vibe and just think it is normal end up noticing it when the U-joints wear out. Under 36000 miles and replacing U-Joints? Something has got to be wrong.

Did the "Dodge told him to put a transfer case in the other truck." have a TSB connected to it or anything? I have been asking my dealer to do something for over a year and so far the driveshafts are all they replaced...

No TSB. I think they have just been consulting star on the issue. I am not convinced the transfer case will fix the problem but have nothing to lose the more they try to fix the problem the more they are recognizing that there is a problem. I will not live with this vibration. It is annoying as hell. The truck has a $39,000 sticker price and thats way too much to charge for a vibration above 70mph. They are telling me that the transfer cases are on backorder so it could be it. I will let you know when they replace it.
