I HAVE A 2003 CUMMINS AUTO.
When in drive and at a light or stop sign etc.
I constantly feel { up from the pedal} and hear a LOW vibration sound almost like a bearing starting to go..
Once you get an ear for it , that's it.
I had the service head go for a ride twice and he cant hear it.
One other note, when the blower is on low it seems louder,but is not the blower for when I shut the truck off and turn the key to acessory and try the blower, there is nothing???

Bill, that may be your electric fan engaging and making all the noise and vibration. When mine was new the fan drove me nuts for a while and then I forgot about it and don't even notice it anymore. Remember, diesels do vibrate and make more noises than a gas powered truck.
Did you just get the truck? Is this your first diesel? You may want to just go to the first page of the 3rd gen forums and start there to see all the quirks and problems people had when the trucks were new. I, and many others, learned alot by doing just that.

 

I had what sounds like the same thing on my truck. Real deep vibes in the cab at stop lights. Would almost give you a headache if you were caught in traffic for a long time. Only did it when these conditions were present: truck was stopped, gear selector in drive, and the engine was at operating temp….which usually was at a stop light. When I changed my exhaust to a 4", it stopped doing it, so I chalked it up as exhaust resonance.

OK, I'm confussed, where is the ELETRIC FAN? The CTD has a clutch fan that does have an electric controller on it to engage it. The only elctric fan I know about is the one for the heat/AC

Hey you moght want to take alook at the Tranny dip stick if you have an auto. It will vibrate up against the heater inlet hose because it is tie wrapped to it and it come loose. Just add a piece of rubber between them and tie wrap it again. That usually gets rid of the noise.

 

If it is heater/AC fan related, roll down a window a crack. If the noise changes, check for a binding vacuum transducer on the heater plenum. When the truck idles the vaccuum increases causing the transducer to partially close or partially open depending on the heater/AC setting you choose. When the recirulate door is between open and closed it can cause "rumble" noise similar to what you're describing. Good luck, Nat

It is a low not load groan, again, like a bearing starting to go bad.
When the truch is first started and up to the first 5 or 10 min. of driving there is NO sound, or it is very low{so I cant hear it}
Once up to temp. it starts.
If you start to get on the truck a bit the sound is more pronounced the moment you stop at a light.

Again, the blower speeds seem to alter it but when I tried the blower moter from the acess. position w/ engine off there was no noise at all, eliminating the blower?
