valves
dont laugh too hard...but I am confused on how to check for TDC on this thing.
and as far as rotating the engine, I have heard a couple things, one of which was the alternator, would I just slip a socket on the bolt for the alternator and rotate clockwise then? wouldnt that just be over torqueing the bolt?
I have the valve covers off, and am just waiting on word here, so I can get these adjusted and be on my way. (hopefully this will be the last problem for a while).
thanks guys.
oh, also, as far as the rocker arms go, the first is intake, then exhaust right?

I will add to this so I dont look too stupid. I know its somewhere on the crankshaft vibration damper, but I dont see it anywhere, or HOW I would be able to see it. any advice
I also tried using the alternator bolt (gently) and all that hapenned was it turned, and the belt stayed in place (turned clockwise).

I've never done this but this guide looks pretty decent, hope it answers your questions http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_910497/tm.htm

I did, thanks for the awesome write up, that was exactly what I was looking for.
they werent too bad, it was mostly the intakes that were off, but then, they werent too far off either.
every now and then at high idle I will hear a stumble, but only if I am standing by the exhaust, and its only one stumble, then a few minutes goes by, then another stumble. I want to chalk it up to me being paranoid, because these are new injectors and the valves are all set.
anyone else hear a stumble every now and then?
thanks again.

oh, the only time I saw white smoke was that one time, and I think that was some left over oil. after that, the only thing I was concerned about was the stumbling while in high idle. after the valves were adjusted, I dont notice too much of a difference, but with the new injectors, it is definately quieter.
I was reading another post, and I think my "problem" is just the gid heaters cycling. i will post video if you guys think its actually a problem:
when its in high idle after the first start on a cold morning, it will hit 1,000rpm, sit there for a bit, then dip for a brief moment, then back up to 1,000rpm (which is the stumble I am talking about). I would assume its just the heaters, but if not, let me know.
like I said, I am EXTREMELY paranoid now about the noises in my truck, which could be good, or bad. thats what happens when you have to involuntarily buy 6 new injectors and tips (no matter how good they are now
)

I think what you are talking about is indeed the grid heaters. Easy way to tell is that your volt meter in the dash will be to the left of or below 14 volts after you crank it and it is idling and you haven't yet gone over 20 mph. if this is when you say it stumbles or a slight rpm drop then it is the grids. If it happens after the voltmeter goes above 14 then it is something else that I don't have an answer for.

thanks for the advice. I will check tonight after I start it, and run an errand.
but yeah, I believe thats all it is because once I drive it, it seems fine.

My truck will do the same when the grid heater kicks in as it drops the RPM's some. Also if your lights were on you would see them dim when it starts a heat cycle and get brighter when it ends its heat cycle.

I am almost positve they are grid heaters now. I was standing next to the front, heard a click saw all the lights dim, the rpms dropped (which is what was making me think it was stumbling) and then it all went back to normal.
I am gonna go out on a limb and say my baby is FIXED
