Update on my 04
Update on my 04
For those that don't remember, I ran my 04 low on oil and developed a knock.
Found a good diesel shop not too far from home. They did a compression check and found #6 cylinder was down on compression about 200 psi from the others. Ran a bore scope in the cylinder that was inconclusive as to how much damage there is. Pulling the head off next to see what we have to work with. Maybe I'll get lucky, and just need to hone the cylinder and replace the piston and rings. If not I found another engine nearby with 85,xxx for $4700. I'll just swap them out if it's cheaper. Mine has 265,xxx on it now.

Well, the shop finally got the head off today. The number 6 piston's rings failed and somehow parts wound up on top of the piston. Obviously the piston is trashed too. The cylinder wall has a couple of small dings in it. Going to have it bored, sleeved, and new piston and rings. New rings, rod and main bearings and oil pump. Will have the head checked too, make sure the valves are fine. Shop estimates 2 weeks to get it done. We'll see, I'm guessing 3.
Had 2 other cylinders that were getting egg shaped so I had it bored .020 over. The head was fine and they only had to polish the crank. They're putting it back together right now, hopefully I'll get it back by the weekend. I don't even like to think of what this is going to cost.
