Unusual Dead lift pump
Unusual Dead lift pump
I've searched around and can't find an answer to my particular issue. My 03 diesel has the lift pump relocated to the fuel tank. Today the truck died. Fuel pump quit. Towed it home, primed the filter, got it running (just off filter-still no pump) to drive it into the garage and put in a new lift pump (not as crappy of job as I thought). Got the new one in and...still no pump. There are NO CODES. I have read where people have had codes for fuel pump voltage or bad ECM with a code but I have nothing. I've tried bumping the starter too and still nothing. I can't find a fuel pump relay or fuse cause supposedly it's controlled straight from the ECM but I swapped around all the relays I could find and no change. No codes at all, how do I trouble shoot it? Better yet has anyone else run into this and fixed it? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Thanks
If it's a Dodge fuel pump retrofit kit, it came with an overlay wiring harness that plugs in at the original pump connector, contains an inline relay that may be tie-strapped to the firewall somewhere on the driver side, and a power feed with a fuse that may be hooked to the driver side battery or possibly the large terminal on the PDC. I would look at that harness and its connectors closely. As it is not OEM, it may have been draped across hot/sharp parts with any degree of care, connectors may not have been engaged or sealed fully. It will run toward the rear of the truck and have some wires which were inserted into an existing large connector where they complete the trip to the fuel tank. Hope you find something.
Holy smokes man! That was the relay. I swapped it and problem solved. I always wondered what that relay was zip tied there for. I can't thank you enough. I'm just sorry I replaced a $300 pump for no reason. Oh well at least my fuel gauge works again.
