U-Joint

I have a u-joint that is bad at the front right wheel. I was wondering how much work it would be to change myself? I usually work on my jeep but haven't had to do anything this much on the truck yet. Just normal maintenance stuff. Or does anyone know a rough price it would cost to have it replaced? Thanks

I had a shop do one for me on a truck for around $225. The hardest part about doing it yourself is removing the hub bearing. Sometimes they are rusted in and will split if you user a puller. I guess guys press them out from the back with the power steering too.

I've done one in mine and one in my dad's. They're not too bad, but you have to be patient getting the hub out. If you're mechanical you'll be fine, if not, take it somewhere and bite the bullet.

My biggest worry is messing up the bearing. Not really wanting to spend an extra $180 on a new one. If the power steering can aid in removal I might give it a try. Have a friend that's a Peterbuilt mechanic if I need some extra help. Thanks

A member named Mr. Gadget did a great writeup on changing ball joints, which would also show you what is involved, and illustrates the power steering method...
