Turbo Replacement

My brother's stock turbo went down on his 06. Dont really know any details but he says its done. My question is how difficult is the repair/ replacement? Any special tools needed? Looking to do it ourselves just dont want to get in over our heads. Im comfortable working on most anything, except the trans, which I leave to the professionals. Any info/pics/etc is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Hardest thing are the 15mm mounting nuts two on top two underneath.
The job can be done with regular hand tools. 15mm. 12mm,10mm nuts and bolts. You will need a long extension to get to the two 15mm mounting nuts from underneath the truck. Its also much easier if you completely remove the battery and air box. Its a pretty straight forward job. Good luck. Do'nt forget to pre-oil the bearing before you hook up the oil feed line.

Thanks for the info! Can the pre oil be done just by pouring into the inlet of the turbo prior to hooking up the line? Ill be buying a used stocker, so I wont have any sort of instructions, just going for it. Thanks again!

Thats how I done it. Just as long as you get a little oil in and the turbo does not start dry.

Just changed mine on 06 last night took about 2 hours. I mdid not remove manifold. I split mine from the manifold. Piece of cake except for the dam metric sizes and dont drop the drain line bolt in the motor mount like I did. took some time and swearing to get it out!! Dont forget oil.
