turbo problem help
turbo problem, and valve body question / help
Hello,
I have a stock 2007 2500, with a 5.9 , it has about 120K miles, check engine light comes one when I accelerate a little hard, go out after a few startups. Dealer says code is over boost, wastegate is the problem , need to replace turbo and probably all lines to it because of they may be a problem getting them off , they are rusted....$2300. I guess my question is , is their something cheaper I can do, is teh watsegate serviceable ? can I use the truck the way it is for a while without harm as long as I don't accelerate too hard, what potential problem can it cause
Also, shifting out of park is a little tough sometimes, dealer replaced shift cable, that did not solve it , they did not charge me, they spoke to chrysler, they said to replace valve body in transmission, that is about $500 parts, + 1-2 hours labor, etc, etc, probably another thousand dollar bill. does this sound right.
Thanks

There is a valve body repair for the hard to shift out of park issue. Any good auto trans shop can install it. About $100. I know someone personally who had a local shop do his. Of course, you'll have to add on a fluid and filter change. Might as well do a band adjustment. So $250 maybe. I would look at parts myself b4 I let the dealer install a new turbo. If your wastegate is stuck, that is something you can replace yourself.
