My dad dynoed his truck last weekend at the scheid diesel xtravaganza. It's a 03 qcsb 6spd. I'll give you guys the mods he has. He's running the stock turbo (plugged waste gate)with 60 horse injectors, a tst 9 level box, air dog fuel system, cold air intake.
His first run on the dyno he made 376 hp with the box on stock setting. Second run he bumped it up to level 3 and made 427hp. For the 3rd run he out it on level 8. The truck has almost never been run on level 8 and has never been on that level with the injectors. He only made like 350hp on level 8 (possibly the clutch slipped). At first we figured it was just too much fuel for the stock turbo to make efficient power. But after we got it on the road driving home (box on stock setting) the turbo made an almost siren sound like it was whining. The warmer he truck gets the more distinct the sound. When the truck gets pretty warm and cruising I sounds like a jet engine. I've noticed egt's seem a little higher but not dangerous. And it's still making boost. He has his waste gate plugged with two screws and we figured maybe one of those fell out but they both seem to be in tact. We also thought that he might have blown a hole in an inter cooler boot. But we've inspected all the inter cooler boots and they seem to be in tact. But the noise is coming from the turbo or right around there. If you just rev the truck up it doesn't make te the whining noise you have to be driving where the motor is under the load of the truck. The truck feels like it's lost a little bit of power too. Does anybody know what this could be? Maybe the turbo going bad? Also the trucks not abnormally black smoking. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
