Truck thru a code
Truck thru a code
Coming back from the coast Friday with camper on truck thru a P 2146 code (fuel injection group 1 supply voltage.) After doing some research found it could be a bad injector, or harness or valve cover gasket where the harness connects. Truck in my signature 05 dually manual basically stock & only 38K miles on her. My quandary is I cleared the code with my scan tool & can't seem to get it to reproduce. So do I dare take it camping again next week or is there some way to trouble shoot it? I won't go to a dealer since the last time they racked me over the coals on a $685.00 part that Cummins Northwest sells for $250..00
Most likely it is an injector solenoid that is out of spec (more than 2 ohms if I recall). It could be close enough that it's just flirting with the edge I suppose. Normally that code will cause limp mode, where it will shut down the offending bank of cylinders.
go through and ohm your injectors. also check all the connections on your injectors and the connections on the harness. here is a downloadable service manual if it helps https://www.dropbox.com/s/8wgppcnbcf...R-SM1.pdf?dl=0

^ Exactly.
P2146/9 codes are death codes for the CR injectors and risky for the engine if the injector fails completely.
Keep a close eye on your engine oil level for going up.
A 2005 11-12 year old truck with only 38k miles means its been sitting around a lot.
If you haven't added additional fuel filtration, start saving for a new set of injectors.
