Truck codes

This code has been popping up lately. P0500 No Vehicle Speed Sensor {VSS} signal. What does it mean? In the Haynes Manual it applies to the automatic transmission, I have a 6 sp. manual. Is it the sensor that sits on top of the rear dfferential??

Yep,top of the Pumpkin...sometimes gets corroded. Doing a burnont or accesive wheelspin may also trigger the code. Just wait till you start your truck 5 or 6 times(to reset the computer),it might go away like on my 2001.
