Transmission Flush ?
Can one flush the tranny himself or does it have to be taken to a shop to have it done ? I can't see this info in the service manual, just the drop pan and filter/oil refill with the 4.0 qts. Anyone ?
I've never actually tried it, but this procedure seems to be an easy way to at least replace all or nearly all of the 30 pints (15 quarts) of ATF in the 48RE. Please let us know how it goes if you decide to give it a shot.

I have used that method more than once, and know several others that do that too, and it works very well. The only thing I might add is that it is very difficult to add fluid as fast as it is coming out, so you may have to shut it down a couple of times to "catch up". My current truck is a 6sp, but our other vehicles are automatics.
I've done it on mine and it really helped the tranny out. It smoothed up the shifting and the truck just seemed to drive better. It didn't help any that my old fluid had 50k miles of hard driving and power braking on it.
