Tran Shift question
Tran Shift question
Hello, everyone. First, I will say hello as I am new to the site and to Dodge trucks. I have been a Ford guy for awhile now. I had a 2003 6.0L that was bought back, and my replacement that was not in the shop as long, but left me sitting on the side of the road more than I care to talk about.
As a result, it's gone to and I now own a dodge as of a month ago. So with that, I have a question for everyone.
I tow a 13-15K(varies based on cargo) 5th wheel camper with the truck. I took my first real trip with the the truck and trailer from Louisville KY to Athens GA. I ended up going down I65 to I24 to I75.
I have noticed that the truck Tranny shifts a little harder than the Ford has with a empty truck. But with the trailer on, and giving it some fuel, it will shift really hard. Now, after coming down the big hill on I24, I had Tow/Haul on, I found that the Tranny would go to shift, but never completed the shift. The Tach, would jump to 3300-3500 rpm. At that point I would left off the pedal in fear of damaging the engine. It did this 3 times or so. I turned off tow haul and towed in overdrive the rest of the trip with no problems.
Since I'm new to the Dodge, I'm trying to figure out what is normal and what is not. I would think this is not normal and I need the dealer to look at it. But in the same regard, with the Ford trucks, Ford told me alot of things where normal that I didn't agree with. So what do you think? I don't want to waste more time with my new truck in the shop if I can help it. Thanks Anthony

I don't haul as much as you do,but I would definitly say there is something wrong. My trans shifts smooth as glass empty with low throttle,It gets a little harder the more I give it,But all in all it shifts verry smooth. My old superduty would shift verry hard when empty.I would have it looked at.
