Torque Converter Toast
52,000 miles on stock power and I am pretty sure that my torque converter is on it's way out the door.
I was pulling about an 8K load or so and while I was getting on the highway, the shift from 2nd to 3rd hung up, then I could feel the converter attempt to lock, then unlocked/slipped and I was tach'ing 3500RPMs and losing speed. Crippled it up to the top of the mountain at 20MPH and 3000RPM (this is all the truck could do) and finally on the down hill run, I got the TC locked up and got up to speed and everything was fine again until I had to exit the highway. Every single redlight after that was aggrevating as all get out until I got the truck and load home.
52K miles and I have had 3 injectors replaced and who knows what all they are going to have to replace in my tranny. I have had it in for the towing package TSB because I was constantly blowing fuses. My seats are stained from water of all things and the cushion on the driver's seat has already worn through to the metal seat framing.
Bought a truck 2.5 years ago and it's beginning to remind me of the Chevy Malibu my wife used to drive. Good thing I bought that extended warranty (which I usually consider to be a total waste).

3yr/36000 mile powertrain warranties just simply don't cut it with trucks like these. I'm awful glad that I read up on these trannies and decided it would have been in my best interest to just drop the coin. I'm hoping for a half million miles out of this truck and the tranny just barely covered a measly tenth of that.
Chrysler changed out to the 68RFE mid-year '07. Wondering if those guys are experiencing the same weak trannies the 47/48RE have earned themselves a bad rep over?
