Tone Ring Mod

Did the Tone Ring Mod - advanced timing about 2 degreees. Have not noticed any differance in milage, sound, or low end torque. Am I alone or have most noticed a differance after the mod?

Tone ring...

The changes are suttle. The place I really noticed an improvement in is MPG around town. I got an increase of about 1-1.5mpg. slight increase in highway milage too.

I have owned a race shop and have built race engines for over 25 years. I have a computerized dyno cell that can spot 2/10 of a hp on the little VW engines that we race. I also run data aquisition on most of my race cars. This is all for the purpose of eliminating guesswork and "seat of the pants FEEL". Having said that....It SEEMS that the tone ring mod has improved both mileage and low-end power. My truck is the 325/600, and it only makes sense to me that this model SHOULD benefit the most, especially since I do alot of driving at very high altitudes. I have detected ZERO negatives to the mod.

Mark,
You should have noticed a difference in the lower rpm range with the 6spd, especially around 1,500 rpms.
Did you measure and mark the tone wheel before and after the mod was done?

Yes, the tone ring was about in the middle of it's slop range. After slotting out the dowel pin hole, the tone ring was advanced two more degrees from it's actual original position.
