I have 285/70/17s Nitto Terra Grapplers on my 2005 4x4 dually. There is about a 1/2 inch gap between the wheels. I felt confident about the tires because Discount Tire put them on. Discount would not put them on if they felt they would not work.

Hope this helps.

It varies between brands on non-stock size tires. The only way to tells is to mount up a set and check fully loaded.

I have a set of 285-70/17 on mine. My tire guy had to put 1 ? 1/4 inch spacer in between. I was still able to use stock studs and caught all threads. They look too close to me but he assures me they are O.K. So far I have hauled my gn horsetrailer with no problems. If I could put rear fender flares on I would go ahead and get the bigger spacers and not have to worry about it. They look better than stock tires though.
