Tierods
Tierods
Started installing my Kore kit and have moved on to the front suspension after finishing the back. Seized nuts were the biggest pain doing the rear susp. but nothing too bad.
After coaxing my old 2t floor jack into lifting the front end and un-bolting most of the shocks/towers, the problems started with removing the tierod ends. The drivers side was a bit of a problem. I undid the bolt halfway and it then popped off a bit making the stem turn while trying to undo the bolt. Some grunting and a pipewrench fixed that. The passenger side as shown in the picture doesnt want to pop off. Will undoing that bolt closest to it ( the one on the steering rod) and then just wiggling the tierod bar help to jar it lose?
thx

I would say it is doubtful it would help at all and it would probably be just as difficult to get it seperated. I had some luck by using PB blaster and hitting the threaded end of the tie rod rod with a 3lb sledge. It popped right out. You could leave the nut on so you don't damage the threads and so it doesn't fall to the ground. Also a pickle for would work but I think it was difficult to get one in there which is why I used the other method.
pickle fork will damage the rubber boot.. but if you're relpacing it, who cares.. another trick is, you can smack the side of the mounting with a hammer to lightly deform the tapered tie-rod hole... should pop out.. after that.
Its just the HP system. Im just following the instructions they gave so I assume they dont want any binding when you have to lower the axle to get the coils in *shrug*
They mentioned to hammer the housing and not the stem to pop it loose. I guess that means that cast iron part of the knuckle? That tie rod & linkage looks all one piece and I didnt want to damage anything.

I didn't use a Kore but I didn't undo any of the steering when I did mine. I thought maybe you were upgrading the steering at the same time.
BTW, put that thing on a jack stand will ya!?

I did! See that bit of red in the back
I bought some 6ton jacks for the job and they work well, better than my poor old 2t floor jack.
Anyways, I pounded on it and it never budged so I just left it on and it didnt seem to impede me much anyways. I guess they tell you to take it off as it helps to get to the shock bolt.
I got it all together tnight and took it around for a quick drive. Much better than stock, very controlled and doesnt really seem any rougher than stock
. No more rocking back and forth over speed bumps and no bottoming out! I only gained about 2.125" in the front so Im happy with that. I didnt want the front too high.
Im getting some tires and an alignment on Friday and will test it out towing the camping trailer this weekend. Im anxious to see how it goes. I'll post a few pics after its done.
