Thinking of getting a 3500 dually

I am thinking of picking up a 3500 dually today I am going to trade in my 2500 HD duramax for it .. Do you guys think that is a smart move ..

I have a 32' tag car hauler that I tow car with for several ppl and I would like to have the dually for the better handling..

thanks

Going from a single wheel to a dually pulling a tag trailer is a great idea!!! I love my dually for towing

Sounds good to me, the only down side to a dually is when the tire are pumped up and no load it can be a little rough, so when empty I run about 30lbs in the rears to smooth out the ride.

Love my dually for towing. Once you tow with a dually, you will never go back. As for the empty ride, I think my dually rides better than my friends 3/4 ton short bed. I might be a little biased however.

I love my dually. I didn't want one, but because of the overhead camper and trailer I haul it was the best, safest option. It rides better than my 97 3/4 ton dodge. There are some things I noticed which are harder to do with a dually.
Back up to a narrow trailer, cant see it very well.
Hard to find a drive thru car wash.
removing or adding air to rear duals is tougher, by good quality air chuck and guage.
fitting into parking spaces is tricky.
Again I love mine and would not trade it, but these are some things I learned after I bought it.

Same here with the only difference is I run 35 lbs empty.
I'd say do it as long as it's not another D-max your looking at.

I went from a 97 3/4T and the ride is a little better and handling is WAY better, empty or loaded. The big butt takes some getting used to! I just found a great dually tire inflator. The end chuck is straight and the backwards chuck is angled - it's perfect. Craig

Cool

You'll also love the handling when you enter a corner fast. Absolutely NO body lean whatsoever. Dont try it on a wet road or you will be in the ditch, but on dry pavement it corners as if it is on rails.

Going to a dually, you will however notice a slight drop in fuel economy. The extra weight, extra rolling resistance, and extra width do rob about 1-2 mpg off of your totals.

Other than that, once you go dually, you wont want to go back.

My excuse

My excuse for purchasing a dually was simple. When you want the biggest pick-up available you go dually. With the Dodges you can't tell the difference between the 1500's, 2500's and single rear wheel 3500's without taking a good long look. No mistaking a dually. I don't tow and the bounce isn't that bad. I too may be biased.

Buying A Dually Was Easy

I had a rear tire blow on my 2500 towing a 30' travel trailer. We were on a flat straight road at around 65 mph.It was a wild ride. I did get it to the shoulder in a straight line. A lot of white knuckle luck & a little experience. We were about to buy a 32' 5th wheel. Loaded weight almost 13000 lbs. With the new trailer being taller & heaver I didn't want another chance to test myself. It's been though drive thru car washes & the like. I have found a few I won't go back to. I went with steel wheels with beauty rings. [chrome caps] Did this so I could rotate the tires without having to break them down. I only have 18000 miles so it's not fully broke in yet & not towing, I'm getting around 19 mpg hiway. I've always liked the looks of the dually. You won't be sorry.

Dodge Dually--- Meanest looking pickup made. I could be partial. I could have gotten by with a SRW 3500, but I love the look, and also don't know what I may be towing in future. Seems so much more stable when towing. Yeah, her hips are a little wider, but full figure is O.K. by me. I haven't regretted it one second, and I bet you wouldn't either.

If I were to do it over again I would get a Dually. I LOVE my SRW. but My truck is ALWAYS carrying a HEAVY payload(3K+) and the dually would handle that much better Im sure.

I guess I'll jump on the band wagon. My dually settled my trailer down great. Trucks, winds through the Mojave, or whatever, it's one hand on the wheel.
