temp gauge
temp gauge
just have a quick question on temps. my temp never used to touch the 200 it always stayed below. now at 10,000 miles it will go to the 200 and even a little over and then comes back down kind of like it fluctuates. with my 19' boat it will run up around the 200 and a little over and stay there. my tranny temps with the boat in stop and go traffic will reach 210 maybe even a touch above. are these temps normal. this is in houston traffic with air temp around 92-95? oh and i checked the fluids on both and they are good.
Just got back from the Ozarks, it was in the low 90's. It was hilly with stop & go traffic, temps in 160-170. The 06 has the OD lockout, it got the rpm's up and temps down. I believe if I did not use that, the temps could have gotten there. My boat is somewhere between #5500-6000, 24' SeaRay. Once moving above 40mph, the temps would drop to 120-130 crusing. What about using lower range in slower traffic.
my boat is somewhere around 2500 max maybe. when i use the tow/haul mode it helps the temps some. where it it gets real high is the sitting in the traffic with this wonderful houston temp and humidity. once moving it will usually cool back to about the 165-180 range. the problem with it is once i get out of the stop and go it is only an hour drive to the bay where i'm launching the boat so it doesn't get much of a chance to cool. what about the engine temps climbing above the two hundred mark. they too go back down once i get on the open road (190*-200*). i'm just trying to make sure that i don't have the start of a problem so i can solve it now.
I would make a guess that your thermostat has changed slightly and what you are seeing is a delayed opening. The temp goes up and the thermostat opens and causes the temp to drop. I think it is a 195 deg tstat so if it goes up another 10 degrees no big deal. I would also expect the temp to increase above 200 when towing slow or in city traffic.
I haven't towed with the 06 yet, but my 2001 would do similar to what you are describing. If the fan comes on and stays on then it is time to pay attention to what is going on.

Sorry ROC155, I thought you were talking about the transmission gauge
. My WATER temperature gauge has always warms up to 200 degrees. When towinq around town it may move a needle width up. Sounds pretty normal to me. The hottest I have seen towing so far 92 drgrees. That is cool for you folks by now
. I have read that these factory gauges are not the most accurate.

thanks for the replies i kind of thought that might be what was happening. Foxborough actually i was talking about both temps so thanks for your help on both. yeah 92* is like a cool front in houston area.
