Sudden Loss of Power

Has anyone experienced a sudden loss of power during acceleration? This has happened to me several times since I've had my truck. It always happens within the first 5 - 10 minutes of driving and always when I'm accelerating (trying to pass someone). It seams as though the truck just shuts down. When it happens I let off the pedal for a second and then can start to accelerate again. My check engine light comes on too. The light always goes back off on its own after a few starts.

Any idea of what might be causing this? Its starting to get frustrating. Is it something that I need to get checked out?

Thanks, Pete

Netx time it happens try and get the codes so we can figure them out for ya. I am guessing it has to do with the drive by wire.

How do I get the codes? I don't have a programmer yet. I'm assuming that the code will stay as long as the check engine light is on. Is that a true statement?

Key on and off 3 times. It will display the codes where the odometer is.
