Stripped tranny pan bolt hole?

Well I was buttoning everything up and tightening the pan bolts on the tranny when all of sudden one of the bolts just wouldn't get tight. Threads on the bolt are fine but the threads that the bolt go into stripped out a little. It holds the bolt and drove 600 miles and it stayed in! Question is should I lock-tight it(don't really want to, make it harder next fluid change) or can I re-tap the hole?

You can try a heil-coil. If that does not hold. Drill a bit bigger hole, tap for that size and put the larger bolt in there.

What is a heil-coil? Anyone what size that bolt is or what size tap I should get? TIA

You can get a helicoil at Sear's Hardware or any good auto parts store. Just bring the bolt with you-they match the bolt size up to the helicoil, and most helicoil kits come with the drill bit that you need and the coil to put into the larger hole.

I would first figure out what size it is and get that size tap and run it. See if that will clean up the threads. You may also want to get a bolt that is a bit longer. I think they are Metric threads.
