stock egts.

This weekend I installed my pyro (pre) and boost gauges to get ready for a chip and was wondering what my egt were supposed to be around. On level ground @ wot I could reach 1175 and at 70 it stayed at 700, and was wondering if this is normal, evan though it was 105 degrees out. The only things I have done so far is a straight pipe and a bhaf, and that number seemed a little high. Also do the dash pods by the bottom of the windshield look clean? I don't want to lose my grab handle and this seems like the best line of site place to put them. Thank you

That is pretty normal. Mine were around the same with the same mods. I could probably push it to about 1250* on WOT but that was with the 315s. Cruising at 70mph would run between 650-750 on fairly level highway.

Thanks for the reply. What do you think I would get up to with a quadzilla adj. box. On my 02 with an edge ez I could peg 1250 pretty easily on all the hills around austin. I was hoping I could run the quad on the 30 power setting just to get some better mileage out of this truck, not used to 17 on the highway.

When I ran the Quad XZillaraider Race box my EGTs would hit 1550* on hard WOT runs on 130hp level. Normal driving they were not much over stock. The 325/600+ engines run a lot hotter than previous because of the emission 3rd injection event. 1350* is not really a problem for short periods even towing.

Triple stacks with whats in my sig I have seen 1700* for a second or so at the track more than once. Quad standard XZillaraider is a good moderate fairly safe box. You would probably see better mileage on 60hp setting that 30hp. 60hp setting should be very safe with what you have.

I have got to start searching through past messages to try and find some information about where the best place is to install the pyrometer exhaust gas temperature sensor. In which locations before or after the turbo did you fellows drill into to thread in the EGT sensor thermocouple? My CTD is a competely stock unit and I need to educate myself about this subject that I now only have a basic knowledge about. Thank-you fellows for shearing your pyrometer installation experiences, expertise and EGT read out findings. I am just so thankfull I purchase a CTD and not a Duramax or Powerstroke. I am well pleased so far with my Dodge, and I am looking forward to Chrysler getting started on production of the 4500 and 5500 for an increased GVWR.

Hey thanks blue, I've never seen a dash pod pic before and that looks pretty clean. I'm using black isspros left over from my 02 so I hope it looks right. Was it hard to run the wiring up through the dash, the boost is easy but that fat connector on the isspro looks like it might be a challenge w/ out making holes. Oh well they come in tomorrow so I guess i'll find out.

On aircraft we usually monitor every cylinder's EGT. That is 4-6 pyros. I would think on a diesel it would help indicate injector performance.

I run two pyros (one pre, one post) because I had extra probes, so the pre registers on the gauge and the post displays on the meter.
