Steering

The other day my 06 with 13000 miles had what a think was the death wobble. Got to looking under my truck and it looks like where the drop pitman arm and track bar bolt together is broke. Has alot of play at that point and is hanging down. Taking to dealer tomorrow. The steering is all over the place at full turn. Hope it makes it there!

You might want to have that one towed man....if it is that bad you might end up in the ditch or running someone over.

Seriously man, dont even think of driving it like that. With a coil spring front end that bar is the only thing preventing latteral movement of the axle. When you turn the wheel the truck is going move sideways over the axel before the wheels start to turn. Very dangerous. I wouldnt even try it!!! I just noticed that your bost said its broken where the pitman arm and the track bar bolt together??? I dont know what you have going on but the track bar and the pitman arm dont connect to eachother. The track bar goes from the frame to the axle. From the pitman arm you have steering linkage that goes to the knuckle. Please dont try to drive it. You're only going to hurt yourself or someone else. Seriously.

Went to dealer today and the service manager said that it was the old death wobble. He showed me the tsb and said he would have to order all the parts. He listed all the parts that he would be changing and one part I didn't know I had was spindles. Thought those were on 2wds. He said he likes to go ahead and change everything below the pitman arm. I did't think it was going to be that big of job! He didn't even drive my truck just looked under it and said it was fine to drive.

Can you post a picture? if the are replacing everything under the pitman arm, it doesn't sound like they are necessarily addressing the problem. Do a search on steering box issues and you will find a lot of threads. I had to adjust mine for excessive play a few weeks ago.

By spindles, he probably means the short shafts that run from the u joint to the hub.

I just want to see what you mean by "hanging down".
