? on speedometer

I have been having trouble with my speedometer guages hitting zero out of the blue and then going back to normal. Each time it does this there is a low fuel "ding" that accompanies. I left it at the dealers for 4 days and they did a $100 flash to it and said they fixed the problem. I knew within a mile of the dealership that it was still no good.

Anyway, my question is, will an automatic speedometer work in a manual truck? I am guessing it will not since the auto probably has the gear indicator but I am not able to look at the auto before buying to verify.

Thanks,
Will

One other ?

One other question: Does anyone know a good source to get another speedometer other than the $900 one that the dealer sells?

cant help you there, did you turn around and get your $100 back for the useless flash?

i hate when they charge for things that dont fix the issue. you should get a week to use the vehicle to prove that the repair fixed it prior to having to pay. or something

$100

No I did not but I had them note that they kept my vehicle for nearly a week and then performed a useless flash on it. I will deal with them when I take it in for a service on getting my money back. Its all BS at the dealer from what I can tell. Mine does not seem to know what to do with the diesel issues.

I've seen the ABS module connector cause this. Did the ODO show no bus when it did it? Or was the overhead doing anything goofy as well?

I assume you tried reseating connectors, fuses, and checking grounding prior to resorting to a new speedo cluster.

Used ones show up on ebay sometimes. These have photos, maybe will answer your question at least. (Search for Dodge Speedometer)

Auto and manual clusters are the same. When the sun hits my dash just right I can see the auto indictors on my manual.

It seems like the ODO did say no bus at one point or another. The overhead has always been ok. Where is the ABS module so I can have a look?

Thanks,
Will

Some of these

I have reseated all fuses and checked the connectors on the back of the speedo cluster. I don't know where all the grounds are but I thought I would probably try to reshoot each one. The problem gets really bad after I run the truck through the touchless wash which makes me think it may be a loose ground.

Look at the abs module: drivers side by the booster on the fender. Take the bigger connector off, put some dielectric grease in it and put it back on. Cheap and easy. Try it before you get real concerned.

Oh, The ABS module has 2 connectors. One with 2 larger wires, and one with about 10 wires in it. The wires are smaller in the BIG connector, these are the ones that usually give trouble.

Still a problem

I tried the connector and it did seem to work for about 20 miles (which is abnormal) and then started again. The problem is worse in colder weather. Any more ideas?

On another note, added the Gear Vendors unit and my mileage seems to have gone up. Have yet to run a full tank on the unit but I will post results when I do. My overhead has increased by about 4-5 mpg.
