Something went wrong somewhere.....

Driving home today from town I pulled out from the gas station and I hear a a pop and now a LOUD sucking noise, like the one that comes from the turbo, no whistle, just really loud sucking. so I pull over, it looks like the air filter came off a little, so I re-adjust it and then pull back onto the road to see if it is still going to do it, sure enough, my boost gauge reads 3-4 PSI and my EGTS go flying. In the 1700 RPM range I was at 1000. Got home, cleaned the air filter, pulled the boost fooler, just went down the road and sound is still there. Any ideas on what it could be before I take it to the dealer for the fun trip.

Intercooler boot loose or damaged somewhere. I'd look around the clamps first.

That would be why you have the three symptoms mentioned all at the same time.

I've heard several reports of the intercooler boot popping off at the radiator.

Do you have the plastic end caps on the aftercooler? if so that could be the problem.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Early 05's had plastic end caps on the intercoolers and they failed completely. Even stock trucks were splitting the ends open. Check that out and take it to the dealer. They will replace it with a new intercooler.

I had that same situation on mine; it was the lower boost hose that came off. I was merging onto the interstate with a 24 loaded trailer and BOOM! I thought the crank broke or something to that effect! It took me just under an hour to figure out what happened. My wife gets out of the truck and hears me laughing and not crying! Ahhhhh memories...

Well at least it made me clean my air filter...I was putting that off haha. Something good came out of it. And I was able to drive the truck home.

I believe Dodge went back to all metal caps in late '05.

The metal end caps will be smooth. Plastic end caps will have molded webbing for reinforcement .
