Snow filling airbox

I drove about 10 miles in 1 & 1/2 foot deep loose dry snow the other day after a blizzard.

The boost drops to 0 and the EGT starts to go WAY up, fast. I limp it home and open the airbox.

The airbox (stock) is packed solid with snow. I had to chip it out with a wrench it was so solid.

Afterwards, the CEL was up and the engine would make no power (egt 500, 8 psi boost max).

Reset codes (map sensor error, couple of others), and everthing ok now.

Does anyone make an intake kit that doesn't pack with snow? Maybe a snorkel kit?. I drive a lot of dusty and muddy gravel roads, so an exposed style filter is out of the question.

bad design- mine did that. as well as other owners . i bought a s&b air intake-the side of their box is fully opened where it mounted to the fender area. i installed (drilled holes and used bolts) stainless steel mesh screen, as well has cutting up the bottom of the box and doing the same thing. have not had an issue since, and that has been three years.

That happens quite often when i snow plow. Drilled a bunch of holes on the bottom of the box helped a ton but i always carry spare filters now.

Would a total replacement cure that issue, like a AFe stage I or II?

Super BHAF

this kit would solve that problem. It completely replaces the stock airbox and pulls air from just below the windshield, known as the Super BHAF.

I haven't seen it in person, but I like how it's setup, uses 2 stock filters in tandem with custom box.

Take the airbox out and use a saber saw to open up the inlet on the box a bit then toss the foam rubber piece that goes between the airbox and the inner fender. You'll get less of all kinds of stuff on your filter; winter and summer.
