Silencer ring/Fuel mileage

Can anyone explain why the fuel mileage would decrease after the silencer ring was removed? she's down now by about 2 mpg

Are you using more throttle to hear that sweet turbo music?

first tank yea,but the second tank i took a nice trip (250 miles) cruise on most of the way.I just dont understand how that could reduce the fuel mileage.

Maybe the silencer does more than we know? It could have some flow shaping characteristics. Everyone that claims removing the thing helps has based this on seat of the pants. Seat of the pants is biased big time on noise. Louder equates to faster in most minds...

The silencer ring has no effect on performance at all. Cummins doesn't even use them on all of their engines. They only put them on the Dodges because Dodge asked them to (to quieten the turbo).

My mileage didn't change at all when I took my ring out. If yours dropped 2 mpg then something else is causing it....IMO.

Could you have left a hose disconnected, or maybe a hose clamp isn't tightened down all the way?

I'd go back and check your work. Its easy to miss something....
