Tell me what removing this ring is suppose to do for performance other than make the old CTD moan?

I helped my buddy get up the nerve to remove his cone of silence tonight. He as a 2003 3500 srw with auto. this is the first thing he has done to the rig since he got it 2 years ago. He has some catching up to do.

I made my intake pipe out of 2-4" PVC couplers and a 5" piece of 4" PVC pipe works really good

that does work, but the stock pipe is 5.5" across, so you are asking a lot of the rubber to compress to seal against the smaller size... maybe someday check and see if you are getting any dust into the intake from there...
