How on earth did you get it out? I've tried and given up. What kind of tool? That thing is seated so deep.

2 small screwdrivers and a small hammer. Get one wedged in (careful not to gouge the turbo). When you do that get the other screwdriver in and make your way around, pulling on the snapring as you do it. It will pop out. I have done a few. Mine came out easy, but some don't.

Thanks. I'll try again. Mine seems like a tough one.

The ring has nothing to do with turbo bark. Turbo bark is air rush the wrong direction and stopping the turbo from spinning. You may have to adjust the way you drive to stop the turbo from barking

Mine doesn't bark with the ring in place. as soon as I took it out it started barking. Even more with my toy hauler. I put it back and no more bark.

Removing the ring lets you hear the turbo more so it might make the "bark" louder. Putting the ring back in might not allow the bark to be heard as much, but it still barks.

I am just guessing here but you hear the bark when the trans shifts right??

Turbo bark doesn't come from removing the ring, though it may make it louder as stated above. Turbo bark usually comes from letting off the gas too fast after WOT or spooling up, which quickly reverses the flow and hence the noise.

The ring was placed by the factory for noise reduction.

For everyone thinking of removing the ring: don't. Order a replacement for as cheap as $50. from geno's garage: then you can replace it if you don't like the sound or are worried about warranty. TDR tests showed when combined with breather mods, it will produce about 6 horserpower.

2006 quad, 48re, homemade airbox, 30,000 miles, no problems.
