silencer ring.

Does anyone know if removing the silencer ring, in the turbocharger, will void the cummins 100K mile warranty?

If your really worried about it ( I know how dealers can be) just put it back in before you go.

They will probably not like it but mine had a mark on it in permanent felt pen, when i go to the dealer i just put it back in so that mark lines up with the other half on the turbine housing and they haven't said anything yet.

Its not going to void your warranty...

Its a sound dampening device, for the drive-by noise level tests.

Chances are that unless you have a turbo related failure the dealer would never say a thing....if you had a turbo fail or something that failed that could be related to the turbo and the dealer saw that the ring was gone they could definitely then try to blame it on the missing ring (can't blame them for that even if it wasn't the fault directly).

What is the reason for removing it? Does it give you more power or is it just to make the whistle louder? If it is the latter, I will just leave it. I have already had the turbo replaced once at 25,000 miles.

My turbo has a has what looks to be a discolored "hot spot" on it. When you turn the wheel with your fingers, it has a spot where it drags. If you spin it, ...it comes to a stop much quicker than it should.

Im taking it to the dealer to have this,... and a few other things looked at. Can someone please help me out with one?

Oh NO! When you removed the silencer ring it allowed the turbo housing to warp! You will never get the ring back in now...

Just kidding! Sorry can't, help my ring is still in place so the turbo will not warp!!!

Maybe you shouldn't have take out? I am not sure why people are doing this, especially if all that you gain is a louder whistling of the turbo. Personally I don't like a loud turbo, gives me a headache .

You say that like it would be deafening...it's not that loud. It's perfect!

It does not add power, it only makes it louder, especially with an aftermarket intake.
