NO, the engine does NOT have to be lifted or hoisted up for a repair to the oil pan Gasket. I am not a mechanic but Someone else asked a similar question, there is clearance enough to Slide it out. Other option is to remove the trans and you can get at it pretty easily.. Thanks for all the replies! I was at a rodeo today and took a peak and so far after another couple hundred miles, not one ounce of a drip. GOing to go ck ALL the oan bolts this eve to make sure they are all snug

I knew the removing of the trans and adapter plate was a option. But why would that be a option if engine dosen't need lifting several inches to get the pan to clear? I did not say the engine had to be hosted out but on the older models which are differant, motor mounts have to be unbolted and engine raised/supported several inches to get oil pan to clear. AH HA according to VZDUDE on a post he made on 07/12/07 he listed by the book a oil pan R&R that engine needs to be lifted.Use the SEARCH FUNCTION for "oil pan removal" it involves a fair amount of work.

Roperteacher, I have had 8 diesels. 4 cars. 2 trucks. A tractor and a backoe, they all leaked some. Forget all this talk about lifting engine and such. Like someone said, unless it starts leaving a puddle, carry on with your ropin and try to keep all your fingers attached to your hands!

I've seen a LOT of these engines and leaking is not one of their traits.Probably needs some sealer on a bolt or just snugged up slighly.

THanks guys, I did download the repair manual and it does state to remove the trans, yadda yadda.. LOLOLOL Anyway, I snugged a couple of bolts down last night before my trip today and low and behold there was NO HINT of oil at the rear of the pan Gasket after 200 miles of towing!!! YIPPI!!! I also went all the way around the entore Pan Front to back to ck and see if any were loose or needed snugging.... Zilch.. ALl were OK...

I talked to MANY a dodge owner today and they said it is very common for those rear bolts to "Sweat"... I am guessing here by 3 out of 5 people I talked to said they had the same . Or never noticed! LOL
