Servicing trani question.

I am going on a 2200 mile round trip in a couple weeks and would realy like to change the fluid in the trani. Its got around 60K on it sence I last had it flushed. It isent bad but you can see it starting to get a little darker than new oil. I dont have time in my scedual to go get it completely flushed. Would it do any good to just drop the pan in my garage and put a new filter in it and replace what ever oil comes out? Or is that just a waste due to not getting enough oil out? The one thing I have going is that I should be able to get a little more than normal as the TQ should be drained out as I only drive the truck once every month or two and every time I do drive it I have to wate for the TQ to refill before it will move. How much oil should I have on hand for just dropping the pan and filter? Should I be woried abought blending in a diferent oil than whats in there now? All ATF+4 is synthetic, corect?? I want to put synthetic in it but am not sure what the shop I had flush it last put in it. Lastly can I adjust the bands while I am at it?? If so whats the procedure?? Thanks.

Just did mine. Drain the pan and refill is all I ever do. ATF+4 is synthetic and won't hurt to mix other brands. I also adjusted the bands. Do a search, it isn't to complicated but you will need a inch pound torque wrench. I wish I had also changed the solenoid and pressure sensor as well because I have the 1-2nd gear hunt. I ordered the parts but have to drain and refill again. I say do it for piece mind.

Just drop the pan and change the filter. Don't mess with the bands if you aren't having any issues. Most folks mess the adjustment up and you don't need that right before a vacation. Just get 6-7 qrts of Mopar ATF +4.

You can easily foa fluid excahnge in your garage. After dropping the pan, changing the filter and refilling, take the rear cooler liner off and put a piece of hose on it to route it into a container. Start the trans in neutral and watch the flow out the cooler line into the container. When it starts slowing shut truck off and refill with appoximate fluid pumped out. Do this twice and top off.

I usually buy 20 quarts. Add 6 when the pan is dropped, watch the flow out the cooler until 4-5 quarts or so has filled the container. Thats all that will flow until it starts sucking air. Do that twice then top off and you have pretty much exchanged the fluid.

You might want to get a gov solenoid and transducer if you have that many miles. A fluid exchange will usualy cause it start shuttle shifting.
