I used VPB for the first 40k or so then switched to Rotella 15-40, only because I was convinced it was the best oil???? Both are good but VPB is the only one that has a Cummings logo. Like anyone else would say, and probably agree, if you change the oil regular 5k-7k, and us a good filter either is good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they say to have at least 20,000 miles or better on your truck before you start using synthetic oil??

I was always told the break-in period on the Cummins was 20,000 miles and not to use synthetic oil until that point...Then again I may of been told wrong.

It all depends on if you work the engine hard or not at all. If you work it hard you can change over to a group 4 or 5 synthetic oil at 5K and if you just drive it to work and back home I would wait until 20,000 miles before using group 4 or 5 synthetic oil like Redline or Amsoil. If your talking about off the shelf synthetic oil like Rotella, Castrol then you could change over at 7500 miles regardless how you drive it as its a group 3 dino synthetic oil.

I never get too excited about any manufacturer of anything displaying the logo of another company.... in my PO, what happens in many situations is that company A approaches company B about using their logo (in the hopes that the public will think that company B endorses company A as having the best product for use in their product) - where in reality what probably has happened is that company A is paying company B to use their logo and company B is agreeing to the use because company A's product does in fact at least meet or exceed their minimum requirements - not that it is the best product out there.

I run Amsoil 5w30 in mine.. Now that is some thin stuff.. Gives me a lil mpg too. Change it every 17-18,000 miles.. 125k on her and runs like a top.

TDR sent 21 samples of oils to a lab that ran test on the oils. They did not put the name on the samples only 1 to 21 that way lab did not know what oil it was.his top six best was [1] Valvoline Premiun Blue [2]Shell Rotella T Synthetic
Why V P B was the price VPB 9.98 gal - SRTS 17.36 gal [3] Valvoline PB Syn 21.89 [4] Pennzoil Long Life 9.98 [5] Chevron Delo 400 [6]Red Line Diesel Syn. Then Valvoline went to the new CJ oil it tested last out of 22 so look for PB Classic OR and oil that is CI-4 Plus I hope this will help some one out
