Question Rotella Synthetic

Anyone using Rotella 5W40 synthetic in the engine? Is it "good stuff"? I was thinking about switching from dino. I see it at walmart for 16 something a gallon. From what I've seen of amsoil , it is around 25, but maybe it's alot better...don't know. With 80,000 + on the clock is it ok to switch to synthetic?

I'm using it now. I change oil @ 10k/12k miles. I switched for synthetic and cold protection. Currently no issues. I've been using it for 15k miles so far.
The last time I bought it from local oil supplier it was $85 for 6gal.

There's a thread on here somewhere regarding oil testing and analysis. The Rotella Synthetic was one of the better products for diesels.

I switched to it at 20,000 miles and have been satisfied with it.

I wonder if I ran this for say 10,000 miles , do I change the oil filter at like 5,000 miles in between changes?

I believe this is the test 2003Ram was referring to. I'm using the Delo 400 and I'm pretty happy with it.

I just started using it myself. No report yet. It may be my imagination, but the engine seems to run smoother. I was using Rotella 15w40 dino oil before this and switched to the Syn because I want CI-4+ rated oil...not the new CJ blend.

My truck runs smoother and quieter with 5-40 synthetic rotella compared to the 15-40. I originally planned to run 5-40 only for the winter months but after seeing the difference it makes, I never switched back to 15-40. I change the oil/filter(Napa 7620 or 7620XE) every 7,500 miles.

I also have been thinking about switching to the Rotella Synthetic 5w/40 and trying the 10K OCI with a new filter change at mid-point of 5K. I usually only average 10-12K mileage per year as it is, do you think changing oil just once a year would hurt anything considering it's a synthetic oil.

My local Dodge dealer doesn't stock synthetic engine oil for diesels, so they let me bring my own Rotella synthetic I purchase at Wal-Mart. I can't say that I actually notice any difference, but if the reduced friction allows my engine to last longer, it may be worth it.

My VW specks the 5-40. I assume a 5-40 is better. Better range better flow when cold. I guess less breakdown with the 5-40. I would be more comfortable with 5w at start ona cold morning. I may switch to the 5-40 valvoline syn diesel or maybe the rotella 5-40 syn. I will look for a good price. See if I can afford it. Cummins guy once told me on my big trucks " synthetic is good, but because of the cleaning job the oil changes do, he would not decrease the frequency of change.
