rotella synth ch not ci????

Just bought 3 gal of rotella synthetic oil for my 2004.5, but in reading it, it is ch rating, not ci?? Did I just get ahold of a few old jugs, or is this really not ok for my truck? Anything synthetic seems to be hard to come by around here, so I am hoping it is ok?

Dennis

p.s. please don't start oil wars 2005, I am just interested in this rating.

CH oil category came out in 1998, CI-4 in 2002. Cummins and Dodge specified CI-4 oil be used for ability of high soot loading. Both are rated the same for low sulphur (0.5%).

API CI-4, and CI-4 PLUS oils are rated to provide a higher level of protection against soot-related viscosity increase and viscosity loss due to shear in diesel engines.

So, I know the above did not answer your question, but if Shell says their CH synthetic meets CI-4 or CI-4 PLUS requirements then I guess it would be okay. I would think if it did though it would have the API label for CI on it.

Rotella, Buy that at Wallmart???

I too saw that rotella is rated CH-4 instaed of CI-4. Their web site says it's CI-4. When I went to Wallmart to pick some up, the jug said CH-4. I have to guess it's old stock. I'll wait.....
