Restoring settings on a tuned engine
Restoring settings on a tuned engine
The 06 I recently got has been modified with the following: hardware: ATS exhaust manifold, Banks intercooler and intake horn, KN air filter, S300SX3 turbo -dont know the wheel dia. or the exhaust housing size, and I don't know if the injectors were replaced with bigger ones. On the software side, I suspect a tuner but display/interface is missing. The truck doesn't have the torque that I need for towing a 20' gooseneck that is often loaded a little above rated capacity. However past 2500 rpm it's a rocket... Totally useless to me...
I took it to a dodge dealer to ask what could be done to either restore to stock or change settings to optimize the ability to tow. The technician said that with so many mods, flashing the ECM was not a good option essentially because the stock settings are to be used with stock components.
A reputable performance shop suggested swapping the S300 for a better pulling turbo such as a Sweitzer, determine if the injectors are different and get a tuner to install the right settings. Seems a good option to me.
What do y'all think? Suggestions for turbo, tuner, other?

Can't help with the injectors or turbo. But, I'm sure the folks here will recommend dumping the K&N in favor of a stock air box. The ATS manifold is probably not hurting you. The stock manifolds were prone to cracking and it may have been replaced for that. If I owned a 2006 and wanted a tuner, I would look into the EFI Live. How much weight are you trying to pull and up what kind of grades? It would be good to know what kind of transmission you have and whether it has been rebuilt/upgraded or not. Also, what rear end ratio do you have?
Agree with returning to stock filter in air box. KN filters require a lot of maintenance otherwise.
I have a 3.73 ratio, would love a 4.10 but I won't get into two pumpkins...
Gearbox is six speed with stock clutch. I have owned only one automatic vehicle and rode many street and dirt bikes so I'm ok with this transmission.
I tow up to mid 20k lbs total and the steepest is 10% with no run but short.
I've heard of efi live: what makes it stand out?
