Replaced CP3-Now that's fun.

Just got done replacing CP3 at 143000 miles.
Took about 3 hours.

No codes, but truck lost 2-3 mpg and could not maintain normal fuel pressure.

Truck is much quieter now and fuel pressure seems normal.

Will put it on the road tomorrow and give update on power.

Cost $1050 + core at local injector shop.
Plus $70 for cleaner,and special tools :
36mm fan clutch wrench
steering wheel puller
serpentine belt tool

You use it to pull the pump gear off the tapered shaft in front.

Truck is much, much quieter.
Excessive black smoke is gone and
overhead is more realistic.

Fuel gauge is still a little funky but I may have fried it when I accidently
put the pressure relief valve in backwards on the holley blue. Over 30psi when you do that on a 0-30 gauge.

Planning to get cheap gauge and check it at the pump.

You cannot believe how much quieter it is.

jnck-

What all did you have to remove around the CP3 in order to remove it?

-fan belt?
-intercooler pipe?
-ECM?
-APPS?
-fan?

Thanks!

you don't have to remove any of that if you have the right tool. Sure it's $30.00 but that fan is a pain, I'd spend the 30 to not have to remove all that crap.

takes about 45 min to do swap. do not need to remove any thing accept whats hooked to the pump. on the older third gens that have the apps up top you need to move it. taking the belt loose helps to get to the front of the gear but not required.
