Removing Turbo

How hard is it to take the turbo off a 2005 5.9 Cummins? Any tricks or tips to know? Ours may have a hot shutdown bearing failure. High pitched tone that is not normal and the turbo has some resistance to spin freely.

None of that sounds good. They are not hard to take off at all, hardest part is putting them back on if any of it really is that hard, getting the exhaust down pipe seated correctly against the back of the turbo and tightening it down.

use a torch to heat turbo nuts....it will save your knuckles!
i've changed plenty of cummins turbos but none in a dodge.
make sure to prelube the new turbo before install

You will need a really long extension on a ratchet for the back 15mm mounting nuts. These nuts are really tight and can prove to be the worst part of the job. I also had to grind a 15mm box end wrench down to get the wrench on the front mounting nuts.

Yup. That rear inside nut is a real pain to get to. It's 10 times worse with a larger aftermarket turbo......
