Removing silencer ring on stock 03
Removing silencer ring on stock 03
I just purchased my first ctd. and want to increase the power. I was told to remove the silencer ring. I wanted to know, is that the metal partial cone shaped ring before the turbo. If that is so how do i get it out. Thanks for anyone help just learning.
the ring is on the outside of the impeller, it basically smooths out the gap between the houseing and the impeller, ( on the side of the turbo that goes to your intercooler) to get it out you have to remove the snap ring holding it in, taking it off will not do anything at all for power, just makes more noise.

Don't expect a gain in power with the ring out. You won't see any. It's just about the whistle.
The ring is in the turbo. Pull the air intake tube from the turbo and see the funnel around the center intake hole. Pop out the snap ring holding it in with a very narrow screwdriver, or other tool, at the snap ring end gap. Get it started and work it out of the groove. Pull out the ring and put the intake tube back on.
Don't scratch or hit the blades.

dont expect ALOT of noise from this mod. i was disapointed . biggest reason is the stock airbox and intake hose keep it quiet too. if you want to hear the turbo; take the ring out AND get a cold air intake kit. when it comes to getting a cold air kit, everyone has their own opinion about which is best; which tells you alot of them are about the same. shop around and get one for the lowest price. Alot of people will say to stay away from oiled filters( k & n) because they cant hold up to the turbo and let dirt get through. i never had that problem, but i switched to an AFE filter when i got one of their kits and i also got the pre-filter so i can extend servicing intervals. hope this helps. you are in the right place to get good info!! these guys on here are pretty good!!
