Rear diff oil

OK, Dad is getting ready for a big trip to Canada, and Alaska about 40 days on the road and camping, He forgot about the rear diff and ask me to change it before he heads out this week. I dont have enough redline and no place to get good stuff like that or amsoil in the next day. Question whats the best I can do for oil from Auto Zone, Napa, Car Quest, advance auto, Walmart type places.
I'm Not wanting to start a oil war I Run Redline and would give him that but no time for that, just need something that will fit the bill and meet the Dodge spec with out going to Dodge and getting it from them.
If someone has found something that they use and has worked that would be good. Mine is a 03 and his is a 06 don't think any spec change on the oil for 06?
Thanks

Jon

I use Royal Purple MAX-GEAR 75w90 in diffs. I buy mine from O'Reilly's auto parts. I would think one of those above, probably NAPA or Advance Auto would have a good GL-5 synthetic like that.

I have not seen RP at the stores around here that I remember and we dont have O'reilly's but I will look for RP again when I go in. I wanted that when I went looking a few years back.
Thanks

I picked up Amsoil from Off Road Warehouse.

If you can't find synthetic at one of the stores listed, try an off-road shop.

In a pinch use valvoline 75w90 or Mobil1 if you want synthetic. Should be available at any auto store near you!

First time I changed gear oil was at 15K miles, factory oil looked almost new coming out, I used the Castrol Syntec 75w-90 full syn to replace from O'Riellys. I changed it again at 45K miles and the oil looked almost brand new coming out again. I went back with Mobil 1 75w-90 full syn I got at Autozone, I have about 5K miles since last change without any problems. I probably will not change it again until 90 or 100K miles. I believe any synthetic GL-5 rated gear oil will do you well.

Most of the places you list carry Mobil 1 and that seems to be one of the prefered oils to use so buy that item if you can find it either 75-90 or if heavy duty 75-140 just so that it is GL-5 rated synthetic per Dodge Specs.

I use at least 75w140 for towing. I've used Valvoline semi syn (from checker)before with very good luck but it was only in there for about 4K miles of towing. It looked like new when I took it out. I think even a blend will be fine for awhile. Craig

If you are looking for Royal Purple....NAPA should have it.

Personally, I use Mobil 1 75w90 from the local GettoZone. Seems to work great and always looks brand new when I drain and refill it every 20k.

I use the M1, and it looks like olive oil when I change it. I initially used the 75W90, tried the 75W140 for 30k miles, and am back to using the 75W90.

I've seen RP at many Napa stores and a few other places, but what ever you do make sure is it Synthetic & GL5 rated per Dodge requirements. Also keep the receipts for proof of it being purchased & changed if needed for warranty.
