Really need some kind of answer here, 04 egts
Of course the stock turbo is going to increase boost with just a fooler. And yes a modified boost elbow will also increase boost. And I absolutely am paying attention... this time
.
What I was trying to say, if you want the stock turbo to survive the heavy fueling, and not snap it's shaft, leave the stock boost elbow in.

What you really mean is yes a fooler will work alone on an 04.5-07 truck, but on the he341 there is no electronic resistor to fool, so a fooler in this case will only fool the computer when more boost is presented. You still have to get an elbow or adjustable actuator to mechanically adjust the wastegate to allow for more boost.
I know what you mean

Boost fooler on a pre-04.5 just stops over boost codes is all.I don't think there is a boost elbow stock. Adding one allows bleeding boost off to keep the WG actuator from openig until the boost goes higher. You push the HE341 up to around 32-35 psi and it seems to live quite well if one is careful. What will kill it is WOT and max boost then dump the throttle really fast, that will usually cost you a new turbo in the near future.
Aight....this is good news so far. i guess i just gotta order the fooler and unscrew the wastegate some....it is a true 04, no doubt about that. Oh yeah, an item that is not in my sig is the daggum 5" turbo back (thats a 4" downpipe, 5" doesnt fit) MBRP i put on this summer. It has helped some, nothing crazy though, came with the MBRP muffler, love the noise ....i should really get some pics for yall...its a sweet truck. Thanks to all....any more advice just throw it out there, lord knows i need all the help I can get.

Fooler will do nothing for boost. You really only need it if you go over 35 psi or so, 45 psi if you have a Smarty. Just crank the screw on th eboost elbow down until your boost gets to where you want. No need to adjust the WG actuator.
Not on an HE341 it won't. Boost is controlled by a boost elbow as there is no electronic control.

There is a stock elbow on the 03/04 trucks, it's not adjustable, it's a straight through elbow without a bleed hole. You have to remove it so you can put the adjustable one in it's place.
I'm just trying to keep the OP from grenading his turbo.
Okay......wait. I have the boost elbow on the truck, the adjustable boost elbow for 03/04 trucks. It is set to about 27lbs. With the smarty on, the truck will still throw a code if i set the wastegate to 37psi or so. So if the smarty fooling doesnt seem to work, I assume getting the quad fooler, which is designed to boost-fool, will work in its place. Therefore, if I get the quad fooler and set the boost to 35-37 it should work best, right? The turbo grenading is worrying me, but shouldnt it be okay if i dont set it above 40psi? If i run the smarty with the quad fooler, it shouldnt run more boost than the wg is set at, correct?.....i just need to get an HE351 and be done with it, but i need wheels, tires etc etc etc.
The boost fooler will do what you are needing it to do, prevent the code from popping since you have the elbow.
But for your turbos sake, do not exceed 35psi, more than that is hot air and turbine overspeeding. I had my he341 set at 32psi and it would peak 35psi with egts passing 1350* with just a smarty (old wild tq management program though)

Might try updating your Smarty and see if that helps. Otherwise, add the boost fooler and you should be good. I though you meant you hadn't run more boost yet, not that you couldn't.
Set it around 35 psi and just let off the throttle easy and you should be ok for a while. Snapping the throttle on and off under high boost is what kills the turbo.
Okay, now for my next question: how does one update the smarty? To be clear, the smarty was boost-fooling correctly with the elbow set to 36lbs. Being a retard I took the smarty off the truck and did not reset the elbow to stock parameters. After a short run, the truck threw the code and defueled. I realized what I had done and attempted to fix it by clearing the code and reinstalling the smarty....it has not worked right since...after 28lbs or so EVEN with the smarty ON it will still throw the code. That is why im interested in the quad fooler. I will take your advice, get the fooler (and see about the smarty update) and set the boost to around 35lbs. Sorry for the confusion and thanks to all.
You can download the latest update from the MADS web stie and install it into the Smarty controller, then install it on the truck. It sounds like it just did not load everything correctly when you put it back on. Try a full unload back to stock and then load it again and see if that helps.
Okay, so the truck in question is the one in my Sig. Without the chip, and unloaded, I can reach 1250 *F without too much trouble, I mean i have to mat it and stay on it. Loaded i can as well, obviously. Why? why the heck does this truck run hot? Is there ANYTHING I can do? The filter is clean and oiled, the turbo seems to be working just fine....have it set on 26lbs. To increase the peak boost any more I have to get a boost fooler....but shouldn't it run well below those temps being freaking stock? Somebody please help on this, I am getting tired of this truck and I'll be danged if it ain't the one I ve always wanted. Thanks
