re-flash as a HO?

I've wondered if anyone has considered trying to get their SO re-flashed as an HO when they have the manual trans recall done. I know the HO has the underside piston oil jets but would also guess the rest of the difference is programming. Anyone know for sure?

I'm more concerned that they will "take something away" when re-flashing my HO so I'm planning on waiting till others have had it done since I don't seem to have any of the problem symptoms and don't often use cruise.

Kris

Re:re-flash as a HO?

The Cummins site says beefed up pistons, oil spray to cool the pistons, and new software. There may be other things but the two engines are basically the same. From what I read at the Cummins site they share a whole lot more than just the block.

http://www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/p...urbodiesel.cfm

If there's more information somewhere else on the site, I'm interested in reading it if you'll point me to it.

Its almost the same engine minus the:
pistons, cooling jets, exhaust manifold.
Flywheel differences on the manuals, autos have the same flexplate.
Of course fuel programming is different.

Thats what I can remember off the top of my head.

--Justin

Re:re-flash as a HO?

What manual transmission recall? ??? On the '03's?
I have the 6 speed manual and had the reflash done about 3000 miles ago. No problems before or after the reflash.

I didn't see any thing on the Cummins website about the exhaust manifolds being different between the two.

If the two are different, what is the difference between the 2 engine's exhaust manifolds?

Re:re-flash as a HO?

It's kind of like rebooting the computer on your truck. I still don't know why everyone seems to be having this done though....or what this recall is all about. ???

Re:re-flash as a HO?

I'm with yoou Hoss. My truck runs fine and I'm not about to let the ******* mess it up. I try and stay away from them like the smallpox. I've got a couple of vibrations, but I'll work those out myself. Infuritating taking the truck in, they keep it all day, and tell you "we can't find anything wrong"

Re:re-flash as a HO?

My truck is still new and the only thing I've had to take it in for (knock on wood) was to have the Class IV hitch installed because it didn't come with one. It took three attempts before they finally got it right though...and that was after I went and pulled the part number off of another truck for them. :

Reflash?? I think not. :

Re:re-flash as a HO?

I hope they are not like the new 6.0 stroker. some guys say that they run worse or the same after the reflash. My 98 has beer reflashed two times. I sure wish there was a way to just plug the truck into a computer reset a few things and have 300hp. ON THE 98-02
DM01
