Pwr Steering pump replacement
Pwr Steering pump replacement
Has anyone had to replace their pwr steering pump. I have an 03 2500 with 111000K on it and have developed a leak on the pump. I have seen on some other posts that the cap could not be venting correctly and building pressure to cause it to leak. So I am going to try that before anything else, but was wondering if anyone has had to replace one before and how involved is it? Also are the reman. pumps alright to replace with or should you go new from dodge which will be pricey I am sure.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Changed my own pump a few months ago. It's a pain to do, but not that bad. Just don't try to do it in a rush. When you get a replacement pump, either get it WITH the pulley installed or buy a spare pulley.
I bought my pump and a spare pulley from RockAuto. The pulley had the correct quantity of ribs, but was tiny bit smaller in diameter. The belt tensioner was easily able to compensate for this. The pulley is a very tight fir on the shaft, so make sure you have the proper tool to install it. Do not apply any load to the pump shaft by hammering as that will destroy the pump.
Have the modified cap, but was not happy with the way it vents, so drilled and extra vent. Think that the way I did it will not allow any dirt to go into the fluid.
Good luck.
