PS fluid exchange

I want to change my fluid. I pulled the cap and used a vacuum hand pump and pulled MAYBE a pint out, all the way to the strainer I could see in the res. I put another pint of ATF+4 back in it and much to my surprise, the next time I checked it, the fluid was just as dark as when I first checked it. Can I pull my high pressure line off and place it in a vessel to capture all the fluid I can, then kill the truck as soon as it cavitates?

Do not remove the high pressure line! You would be better served by removing the return line and inserting it into a bucket.

On my '98.5 I followed the advice of a guy on another forum. Evacuated the reservoir 6-8 times with a turkey baster, replacing it with Valvoline Synthetic PS Fluid. After about two weeks of this the fluid was transparent and stayed that way. I'll do the same with this truck.

I just pulled the lines off the cooler. It was super simple. Everything drained from the cooler, and the reservoir.

Coolant lines are the best way. Super fast, drains complete. Its the small cooler under the radiator with two 3/8 lines going to it. One line to pump, one line to brake boost. I still do a flush by draining refilling, run a little, draining and refilling. good luck

I do the same procedure. Do the brake fluid like this too. PS can be done quickly because all the fluid is circulated upon starting the truck. Brakes I, do over time. Replace whats in the reservior, drive it for a day, repeat several times.
